This 36-hour class gives students experience using an integrated electronic health record and practice management system to understand the medical revenue cycle management process from line item charge review and posting charges to a bill through payment collections and refunds. Students will gain practical experience billing and recording payments for patients with multiple payers, self-pay, Blue Cross, Medicare, Tricare and commercial insurances.
Lessons will also address other special situations including
- Employee health patient annual physical
- Drug screens
- Workers’ compensation cases
- Patients with guarantors
- Liability cases
- Processing returned checks
- Working with a collection agency
- Writing off bad debts
Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS) Prep

Description:
A Certified Health Record Specialist (CEHRS) obtains and documents patient information. CEHRS can specialize in a variety of areas or one aspect of the electronic health records such as entry-level coders, encoding within a hospital setting, abstractors and/or coding specialists, HIPAA Compliance Officers, and HIM (Health Information Managers).
Obtaining a Certified Health Record Certification from the National Healthcareer Association may include more job opportunities, increased pay scale, and improved subject matter expertise.

Description:
Also referred to as Medical Office Secretary or Medical Office Assistant, a Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) performs routine administrative and clinical tasks to help keep physician offices and clinics running efficiently.
CMAA job tasks may include:
- Reviewing and answering correspondence
- Working with budget expenditures
- Record keeping systems
- Interviewing job applicants
- Maintaining patient charts
- Front desk duties.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Prerequisite: Students must be 17 years of age and no criminal background.
Description:
A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides daily living assistance to patients. CNA's typically work in nursing homes, hospitals, and other long-term care facilities and may also assist doctors and nurses with medical procedures. The Certified Nursing Assistant course includes classroom work, skills labs, and clinical experience within 15 miles of M-TEC. Contact Thompson us for dates.
Upon course completion, students are eligible to take the State of Michigan Licensing Test for the Competency Evaluated Nurse Aid certification.

Description:

Description:
The Michigan Public Health Code (Rule 338.7001(c)) effective June 1, 2022, requires all licensed and registered healthcare professionals to train on Implicit Bias as a condition for initial licensure/registration and renewals.
Implicit (subconscious) bias refers to the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions and decisions in an unconscious manner.
Interactive class topics will include:
- Define the concept of implicit bias
- Reflect on personal and professional biases
- Understand the impact implicit biases present in healthcare
- Define strategies to mitigate the negative impact of implicit bias
This training provides a certificate from Thompson M-TEC to validate participation.
