Dr. Kyle Mayer started his OAISD career as the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services in August 2008. Leading up to his start at OAISD, Kyle worked in a number of education positions including fifth-grade teacher, elementary school principal, and also served as Superintendent of Ashley Community Schools. He has made a long career out of his passion for making a difference in the lives of students, families and community members.
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University, he eventually continued his education at Western Michigan University earning a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership Research and Technology with a Superintendent Endorsement. Kyle is also on the Governor’s PreK-12 Literacy Commission and is a current member and past Chairperson of the MAISA General Education Leadership Network (GELN).
Outside of work, Kyle can be found spending quality family time with his wife, Melissa, and their two children, Sarah and Ryan. Kyle and Melissa met in an education class at Michigan State University and discovered their life paths were quite compatible. Melissa has dedicated her career to teaching and is currently serving a classroom of 4th-graders. Their family home also includes two French Bulldogs, Fergus and Lola, and a cat named Bandit. Kyle also enjoys being out in nature, riding mountain bikes, and cheering on his beloved Spartans.
