OAISD/MAISD Transportation Training Agency
Ottawa Area ISD operates a Transportation Training Agency certified by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) to provide state mandated bus driver certification classes for public and private schools operating within OAISD and the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District (MAISD).
Curriculum
The MDE web site has complete curriulums for Beginning School Bus Drivers and Continuing Education for School Bus Drivers.
Registrants for Beginning Bus Driver Training must complete the following:
- Pass a physical.
- Receive from local school, approximately 10 hours of behind the wheel driving with a certified trainer (no students on the bus).
- Take and pass a CDL road test.
- Possess a CDL Group A, B, or C with “P” and “S” endorsement.
- Be prepared to enter the Beginning School Bus Driver course per the judgment of the transportation supervisor.
Once enrolled in a Beginning School Bus Driver Course, a qualified enrollee may be issued a temporary certificate to drive a school bus. This certificate is valid for 90 days after issuance/or for 10 days following completion of the beginning bus driver class. Please remind your driver that only ONE white card will be issued. If they do NOT attend this class, FOR ANY REASON, they will NOT be issued another card and will not be able to drive after the expiration date on the card.
