SHELDON PINES SCHOOL PROVIDES THANKSGIVING DINNER BOXES TO STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
Sheldon Pines School (SPS) boxed and delivered boxes to 20 SPS students and their families with everything needed for a Thanksgiving dinner this week. SPS staff provided the turkeys and staff from around the OAISD contributed yams, gravy, mashed potatoes and more to complete the meals.
Brandie Navarro, Director for SPS, said she has worked for OAISD for 14 years, and the generosity of her co-workers never ceases to amaze her. “I could not be more grateful to be a part of this organization, and I can speak for my staff when I say that we feel surrounded by support,” Navarro said. “Thanks to every person who donated food, money, time and energy to this project. Thanks to you, all the families that signed up for Thanksgiving boxes were able to get a full Thanksgiving meal.”
Some SPS families have recently experienced homelessness and as they get back on their feet they don’t have money for “extras” including Thanksgiving dinner.
An added surprise this year was homemade pies from CTC Pastry Arts and Baking program.
“Parents weren’t expecting homemade pies,” Navarro said. “Being able to share that the pies were made by local high school students made it all the more special.”
