Holland, MI - Ottawa Area Center, a service of Ottawa Area ISD, recently earned the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Data Utilization award from Michigan's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MiMTSS) Technical Assistance Center for the 2022-23 school year for the collection and use of Behavior MTSS fidelity data to improve interventions and supports for OAC students.
MTSS is a comprehensive framework supporting instruction for a full range of learners from the struggling to the accelerated, utilizing intervention, assessment, staff selection and development, leadership, resource allocation, effective communication, and system processes and protocols. Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) and Response to Intervention (RtI) are part of this system.
“Ottawa Area Center is honored to receive this award and recognition for our efforts around Data Utilization within our School-Wide PBIS Multi-Tiered System of Supports,” Ottawa Area Center Director JoAnne Thorsen, said. “We pride ourselves on data-based decision-making to facilitate problem-solving and continuously improve our practices for student success.”
MTSS focuses on academic, behavioral, and social/emotional supports. By collecting and analyzing data, MTSS can identify specific areas needing improvement throughout the district, in an individual school or to help individual students.
The data is used to evaluate successes and areas of improvement using a multi-tiered system of support. From there it can be determined which additional interventions are needed for students who may need more support.
Ottawa Area Center is one of only 13 facilities recognized by the state for MTSS implementation and supports based upon evidence of fidelity and impact.
